Dag 19: St. Boil - Juliénas (63 km)
17 juni 2018 - Juliénas, Frankrijk
The first 25 kms we continued the 'Voie Verte', a pretty straight line following an old train track. We only had to share it with skeelers, who didn't always share it with us. We came along Taizé, the siege of an international oecomenic christian community, before arriving on Cluny, that means more to me since my trip to Santiago de Compostella. We took our time to visit the medieval abbey and its ruins and managed to catch some food for the afternoon. It was Sunday and most shops closed.
After Cluny we came in a hillier environment with some short but steep climbings and descents, including viaducts over France's Highspeed Train (TGV) lines. We had to go through a 1,5 km long dark tunnel, called 'Au Bois Clair' (In the clear wood). The last part included a number of hills that gave us amazing views over the vinyards of the Beaujolais wines. At the hotel where we've settled for the night a 'dégustation' was being organized and we could taste the wine of St. Amour. Lovely.
