Dag 10: Verdun - Woinville (50 km)

8 juni 2018 - Woinville, Frankrijk

This morning we battled to find proper batteries for my old hearing aids. We first tried a shop at least 4 times the size of Albert Heijn XL, where they sell everything except batteries that fit my aids. I saw that the key maker, part of the same hypermarket, did have hearing aid batteries, which he didn't know unfortunately he only had the small yellow batteries and I need the blue ones, 4 times the size of the yellows. We finally found them in a specialized shop where they secretely packed them in a much too big paper bag. Anyway, it may sound naïeve that I didn't have spare batteries with me. I did, but they didn't survive yesterday's orage. And I actually also believed that I wouldn't need them. I'm trying out new hearing aids hat are charged with electricity. It's said to be a revolutionary model that recognizes 267 situations, but not that of two cyclists in rural areas. I do hear the birds and the wind, but not my partner.

Back to cycling. It was a rather flat trajectory with a tough climb at the end. As good accommodation is scarce in this region we settled in a recommended 'Logis de France' in the middle of nowhere, but with a swimming pool and a view on an American War Monument that oversees the valley of the Mosel river that we will follow tomorrow it also has a church opposite our room. It's closed but the bells ring, every quarter. Sleep well.
