Dag 8; Sainte Cécile (B) - Montmédy (France; 40km)

6 juni 2018 - Montmédy, Frankrijk

A day of sorts. At 14.30 we had completed 13 kms, missed an exit and made a detour, climbed an 11% slope (walking), visited a regional market in Florenville, bought half a kilo of cerises (manually picked by Mdme Dujardin herself), bought and consumed two banana's (picker unknown), ánd visited the Chapel of St. Anne.

The next part went over two hillsides, one of 13% (downhill on a once tarred road full of potholes) and brought us back in France. We took a break in Breux at the pavement stairs of an old church that seemed to be out of service, except its bells that suddenly rang the quarter (4x). Our next stop was in Avioth, a dorming rural village with less than 300 inhabitants and an enormous Basilique with place for at least three times that number.

The cycling ended at the foot of the Citadel of Montmédy. The 'campings municipal' are somewhat in decline. May be they should put them on the Unesco World Heritage list. I would support such an initiative and not only to have hot water showers and clean toilets.

Our last action of the day was down hill to Restaurant 'Panaromique', the only one that was open according to the websites consulted via google maps. When we came there we saw nothing. The doors said 'closed on Thursday and Friday'. A Wednesday of sorts.
