Dag 17: Pontailler-sur-Saône - Beaune (76 km)

15 juni 2018 - Beaune, Frankrijk

Today's trip was relatively easy and we arrived prettly early at the camping municipal of Beaune, one of the better maintained and more frequently visited 'government campings'. It's close to the town center and the average age of the current visitors looks like 65+; only 4 on bicycles. And also 4 from Ede; our neighbours are the other 2.

Todays main problem was a track of about 5 kilomers gravel road that went op and down in all directions. Recent rains had carved out a web of gullies, more dangerous descending than ascending. The French were aware that something had to be done and 'thus' had they started filling the most serious potholes, with red rooftiles .......

Now we are halfway anf we must decide which alternative to take, the Western track goes up to 1200 meters or through the Rhone valley. The author of the guide states that the first track isn"t harder than the Via Rhona. The first one climbs gradually and offers more panorama's. The total 'climbing meters is about the same'. Well, we earlier concluded that his definition of climbing and ours do differ. Tomorrow we will decide, in Beaune or in Cluny.
